Concrete in the mountains is different. Freeze-thaw cycles crack inferior work. Slopes demand proper forming and drainage. And Asheville's clay soil requires reinforced bases that won't shift.
Terra Builders AVL has been pouring concrete across Western NC for 17 years. Our work stands up to everything the mountains throw at it.
Concrete Services
Driveways — New pours and replacements. We grade the base properly, install control joints at the right intervals, and finish to handle mountain traffic and weather.
Patios — Flat, sloped, or terraced. We build patios that drain correctly and provide years of outdoor living space.
Sidewalks & Paths — ADA-compliant walkways, garden paths, and property connections. Properly formed for grade changes.
Foundations — Footings and foundation walls for decks, additions, retaining walls, and outbuildings.
Decorative Concrete — Stamped, stained, and exposed aggregate finishes that elevate your hardscape.
Concrete Repair — Crack sealing, leveling, and partial replacement. We assess whether repair or replacement is the better investment.
Mountain Concrete Best Practices
- Proper base preparation — 4-6" of compacted gravel over undisturbed or compacted soil
- Reinforcement — Fiber mesh or rebar depending on application and loads
- Air entrainment — Microscopic air bubbles in the mix that prevent freeze-thaw damage
- Control joints — Placed every 8-10 feet to control where cracks occur
- Curing time — We protect fresh concrete from temperature extremes and don't rush the cure
- Drainage — Every concrete surface we pour has a drainage plan
Why Local Experience Matters
We've seen what happens when flatlanders pour concrete in the mountains. Slabs that crack in the first winter. Driveways that wash out underneath. Patios that pond water against the house. Our concrete work accounts for Asheville's specific climate, soil, and terrain from the very first step.
